What We Believe

What we teach and practice at StoneBridge Community Church is based on the Bible. Each week our pastors remind us of the Good News of the Gospel, that God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3.16-17) Jesus didn't come to rub our sins in; He came to rub them out.

We believe it is important and biblical for people, congregations and church leaders to be accountable. As a result, we are a connectional church, formally a part of the Presbyterian Church. Presbyterian means governed by elders. Practically speaking, that means we have a representative form of church government.

We are a part of the Reformed tradition, committed to an ongoing process of being faithful to scripture. Every few generations we put our beliefs about our understanding of scripture and its meaning for our lives into writing. You can read a recent example in our Brief Statement of Faith.

Our congregation is a part of the confessing church movement, affirming (1) that Jesus Christ alone is Lord of all and the way of salvation; (2) that Holy Scripture is the Triune God's revealed Word, the Church's only infallible rule of faith and life, and (3) that God's people are called to holiness in all aspects of life. This includes honoring the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, the only relationship within which sexual activity is appropriate.

While we are a part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus Christ. We are inter-denominational insofar as our members come from a wide variety of religious backgrounds and traditions. Our congregation is a part of the Willowcreek Association, an international association of action-oriented congregations with a common commitment to Christ and a passion for reaching lost people. Finally, we are a church committed to a balanced, biblical mission "to reach the lost, to make disciples, and to send them out."
